Obituary

Wallace “Wally” Ginsberg, age 89, of Boca Raton, FL, formerly of Homewood-Flossmoor, IL and grew up on the Great Vest Side of Chicago. He is survived by his dear wife Esther “Essie” Ginsberg, his beloved children he shared with Loree: Sheri Rahn, Deborah (Arnold) Gross, and Susan (Jack Pfeiffer) Ginsberg, and children he happily gained through marriage to Essie: Aarona (Dan) Tesch, Jodie (David) Wheeler, and Maryl (Medwin) Dayan. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren: Nikki, Jamie and Carly Gross, Jordyn and Lexi Ginsberg, Stephanie (Bryan) Nelson, Samantha Rahn, Matthew and Shelby Gorstein, Danielle and Lauren Tesch, and Jorie, Jacob, Evan and Asher Dayan. He was the oldest son of the late Frieda and the late Jacob Ginsberg, and brother of Charlotte (late Harvey) Seigerman and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including the Ginsberg/Cohen cousins club, and his dear friends. While he started and ended his working career as an insurance man, his most treasured position was as co-owner of the iconic Al’s Deli of Homewood, and he often spoke of the wonderful memories he had of those he mentored and worked with for many years. He was an avid lifelong south side Cubs fan, ice cream lover and “vestsider” who was also a passionate athlete. He loved watching and betting on harness racing and owned many racehorses back in the day. In his later years you could see him walking, golfing, playing canasta and gin or hanging out with his buddies at breakfast.
