Steven Michael Lewin

Obituary

Steven Michael Lewin, 77, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022, surrounded by his family in Highland Park, IL. Loving husband of Joy (nee Krasner), proud father of Jesse (Caitlin) and doting “Ogo” to granddaughter Elly.

While Steve’s life started in the shadow of World War II and ended amid a global pandemic, he was known for bringing calm, kindness and happiness to those around him. His jokes and puns were always on cue, eliciting laughs and sometimes grunts (he would count those as a victory too) from those around him. A jeweler by trade, Steve later tapped into a hidden talent for watercolors and sculpting, producing everything from luminescent scenes at sea to evocative abstract pieces that brought his vivid stories and dreams to life.

With cosmopolitan adventures bringing him to Valparaiso, Indiana, Randolph, New Jersey, and Montreux, Switzerland, Steve always considered Chicago his hometown. He grew up in Albany Park, graduating from Roosevelt High School before attending college at Southern Illinois University. It was during those formative years attending his first Bears game at Wrigley Field where he fostered his lifelong allegiance to the Cubs and Bears. Summers were spent sailing on Lake Michigan and with his son on a proud little Sunfish on Flint Lake aptly named “Joy’s Boys.”

Steve’s smile, sharp wit and beautiful artwork is etched into all those who he touched throughout his life and lives on into the future. He is survived by his brother Kenny and sister-in-law Renee.

Contributions in Steve’s memory can be sent to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014, www.michaeljfox.org for Parkinson’s Research.
