Obituary

Stella Baer (Karp), nee Tabershaw, age 97, of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away peacefully on August 3rd, 2025, surrounded by family. Stella was devoted to her family, a life-long learner, champion for children and people with special needs, mentor for young teachers, and a bright shining star to all who knew her. Stella was born on May 28, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Morris and the late Goldie Tabershaw and was the youngest of three children. Stella was the loving wife the late Sanford “Sandy” Karp; beloved mother of James (Michele) Baer, Nancy (Richard) Eberhardt, and Alice (Dave) Hill; devoted grandmother of Melissa Kay (William) Murdock, Ben (Alyssa) Baer, Aaron (Maria) Baer, Daniel (Sarah Oberlander) Eberhardt, Denise (Brian) Croft, Julie (Shane) Jensen, Kevin Hill, Brittany (Kenny) Scowden, and Alysha Joseph; adoring great grandmother of Naomi, Ellie, Bella, Asher, Liam, Landon, Milo, Audrey, Abby, Adalena, and Scarlett; treasured aunt and friend to many.  Stella was a graduate of New York University (NYU) and had her graduate degrees from Northeastern and an administrative certificate from Northwestern. She was a career educator and a pioneer in the field of Special Education. Stella spent most of her career as a teacher at Molloy Education Center. Stella loved traveling, music, writing songs and spending time with family.

Service Thursday, 12 Noon CT at The Chapel, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove (1 Block N. of Lake Cook Rd.). Stella’s service will be livestreamed at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com. Interment Randhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center would be appreciated or to charity of your choice.
