Obituary

Shirley "Shaindel" Greenspan (née Kalish), 100, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Meyer for 49 wonderful years; loving mother of Marla (Michael) Solarz, Phillip (Nancy) Greenspan, Robin (Rick) Weber, and Scott Greenspan; cherished "Nana" of Rachael (Drew) Smith, Evan (Kathryn) Weber, Daniel (Dana) Weber, and the late Samuel Solarz; adored great-grandmother of Emelia, Shai, Elise, and Carter; much-loved sister of Buddy (the late Gail) Kalish and the late Doris (Morrie) Bischaf and the late Mort (the late Rose) Kalish; treasured aunt, great-aunt, and friend to many. Shaindel was stubborn, fiercely independent, and wonderfully unfiltered. She was known for leading every conversation with sarcasm and humor, always aiming to make others smile and laugh. She and her beloved Meyer built a beautiful life together, raising a close and loving family. Shirley took great pride in her family, her heritage, and her love of Israel. She hosted many holiday gatherings in her home, where she shared her joy of cooking with those she loved. Family meant everything to her -- especially her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Memorial donations in her name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate. Private service, Monday, April 27, 2026; 12:15 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. For the virtual link, shiva information and leave condolences: www.shalommemorial.org or (847) 255-3520.
