Obituary

Shirley Esrig, 97, passed away on October 14, 2024; beloved wife of the late Donald; loving mother of Jerry (Deborah Thorne) and Teri Blenner; cherished "Bubby" of Benjamin (Courtney) Blenner, Sarah (Gidi) Uzan, Daniel (Kate Mertz), Rachel (fiancé Thomas Smith) and Jordan Blenner; much loved great-bubby of Ellie Uzan, Don Uzan, Blake Blenner, Shoshana Esrig, Beatrice Blenner, Eitan Uzan, Emmett Esrig, and Dotan Uzan. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents the late Meyer and Ruth Hirst and adored sister of the late Minette (the late Nelson) Estes. She graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1945 and attended Miami of Ohio and Roosevelt University. Shirley worked with her father at Meyer Brothers Department Store on South Ashland. She married her beloved Donald in 1950 and together they began their family. While raising her adored children, Shirley was active in community life, serving as president of the Warren School PTA, a board member at Rodfei Sholom Synagogue and was active in local politics. After Terri entered high-school, Shirley joined Donald in the now family business, Meyers on Chicago Avenue. When Shirley was not being a champion mother, she loved the opera, the symphony and the theater. Shirley had a passion for cooking, especially for the holidays, and was truly devoted to her family and extended family. She will be dearly missed.
