Obituary
Sheldon Hyman, 91, of Lake Worth, Florida, passed away on February 19, 2024. Sheldon built a successful home construction company, served as president of the Northbrook rotary club, rooted for Chicago sports teams (in both their good years and bad years), never missed a chance to play a tennis match, and prided himself, above all else, on being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Sheldon met the love of his life - Janet Satlin - at Drake University at the B'nai B'rith dance. For the next 65 years, they were partners in both life and business, building a large and beautiful family and a successful all-female travel agency called Travel Duet. Sheldon lived his life according to Rotary's 4-Way Test: (1) Is it the truth? (2) Is it fair to all concerned? (3) Will it build goodwill and better friendships? (4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned? In retirement, Sheldon devoted himself to service, volunteering as a patrolman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and working as a driver for Meals on Wheels. Above all, Sheldon was a social creature, developing deep and lasting friendships everywhere he went from Chicago to Northbrook to Valencia Reserve to Mariposa. He will be deeply missed by all those fortunate to come across his path. He is survived by his beloved daughters Joni Hyman, Linda (Dr. Craig) Floch, and Susan (Wayne) Ray, adored grandchildren Dr. Jared Floch (Dr. Courtney Andres), Brandon Floch (Dr. Stephanie Picon), Justin Floch, Brittany Martin (Kyle), Brett Kraiman (Kate), Blake Kraiman, and great-grandsons Elijah Floch, Benjamin Floch, Graham Kraiman and Logan Martin. Chapel service Friday 12:15 PM, March 1st at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights.
