Selma Perlstein Mantel

Obituary

Selma Perlstein Mantel, 91 of Houston, Texas peacefully passed away on October 15, 2018. Wife, mother, and grandmother, Selma was born in Dallas, Texas on February 3, 1927, graduated from San Jacinto High School and the University of Houston and lived for 31 years in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey after her marriage to Herbert Mantel. After her husband became ill Selma worked as a medical research coordinator for Novartis (formerly Ciba-Geigy) in Summit NJ.  She retired and moved back to Houston to be near her children and grandchildren where she was a member of Temple Emanu El and an avid mah jongg player. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert and her son Marshall. She is survived by her daughter Melissa Mantel of Houston, her daughter-in-law Karen Mantel of Dallas, her son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Jessica Mantel of Bellaire, Texas, sister-in law Diana Flaster of New Jersey, seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Donations should be made to the charity of one’s choice.
