Obituary

Sarah Y. Smason, nee Yellen, 103 beautiful years, beloved wife for 55 years of the late Marvin Smason; loving mother of Stewart (Sheri) Smason and Joel (Renee) Smason; adored grandmother of Becky (Jason) Jonesi, Erik (fiancée Alyssa Benson) Smason, Hannah and Abby Smason; proud great grandmother of Maizy; devoted daughter of the late William and the late Rebecca Yellen; dear sister of Rose (late Marvin) Davidson, and the late Morris (late Dorothy) Yellen, late Lillian (late John) Cohen, and late Dora (late Donald) Schaffer; treasured aunt, great aunt and friend of many. Sarah and Marvin were long-time members of South Suburban Synagogue, which merged with two other congregations to become Congregation Am Echad in 1977. Am Echad is now part of Shir Tikvah in Homewood. Sarah was very active in the sisterhood at South Suburban Synagogue and later at Am Echad. She worked as a salesperson for Marshall Field and Company for approximately 25 years; first in fabrics, then later in appliances and mattresses. Sarah was an avid mahjong player and loved to travel, but the most important thing in her life was her family. Service Monday, 11:00 a.m. CT at The Chapel, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove (1 blk N. of Lake Cook Rd.). The service will be livestreamed at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com. Interment Zion Gardens Cemetery (formerly Rosemont Park Cemetery), Chicago. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to American Friends of Magen David Adom, www.afmda.org.
