Obituary

Ruth Salter, beloved wife of the late Peter Salter, passed away on January 03, 2025. Ruth was born on January 02, 1937, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Leonard and Yetta Alpert. Her siblings, Harold Alpert, Zelma Campbell and Toby Spalter, predeceased her. Ruth graduated from Hillhouse High School and attended San Francisco City College. In 1959, she moved to San Francisco, California, and worked as a secretary for the FBI. In 1962, she moved to New York City, where she met Peter. She worked as a legal secretary in Rockefeller Plaza and on Wall Street. In 1987, Ruth started a successful secretarial service. Peter and Ruth were married in 1963, and lived in West Haverstraw, New York, for eight years, where they had two children, Deborah and Eric. They moved to Palatine, Illinois, in 1973, where they lived for 34 years. They then moved to Wheeling, Illinois. Ruth leaves her children Deborah Salter Green and Eric Salter, son-in-law Ed Green and daughter-in-law Heidi Kogelis Salter; and the lights of her life, her grandchildren - Samantha Green, Alexandra Salter, Sydney Salter, Kayla Salter Giltner, and Kaia Green, and her grandsons-in-law Garret Olson and Coltyn Giltner. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 14th, 12 Noon CT, at The Chapel, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove (1 Block N. of Lake Cook Rd.). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to WINGS (wingsprogram.com).
