Obituary

Sararuth "Ruth" Goldenson Forman, at 103 years old, passed away peacefully at her Chicago home on April 17, 2024. Ruth was born on November 17, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest daughter of Hyman and Rose Goldenson. Always a bright and intellectually curious young girl, Ruth graduated from Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh at the age of 16. Then, during the height of the Depression, Ruth traveled to Chicago to attend Northwestern University where she studied Education. It was there that she met the love of her life, Robert S. Forman. They were married in 1940 and raised a family on Chicago's South Side. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years and her eldest daughter, Carol Wolk. Ruth is survived by her children Charles Forman and his wife, Jane, of Brookline, MA and Deborah Forman Eichten and her husband, Estia, of Chicago, IL. Ruth had four grandchildren, Ann Wolk Stolar, John Wolk, Thomas (Tanya) Forman and Sam Forman and was blessed with five great grandchildren, Kate Stolar, Sylvie Stolar, Ivy Wolk, Owen Forman and Thisbe Forman. The family would like to express their gratitude to Nurani Icao and Dorothy Rosado for the wonderful care they provided our mother in her later years. Ruth was a great friend to many, a caring and giving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and she will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CJE Weinberg Center, Ruth and Robert Forman Enrichment Series at www.cje.net/waystohelp/donate.
