Rosalyn Blankstein

Obituary

Rosalyn “Roz” Blankstein, nee Barnett age 92, passed away in Chicago, Illinois on March 19. Born on April 30, 1928 to Harry and Edythe Barnett, she grew up in Detroit, Michigan. In 1948, she married Harold Blankstein and moved to Glencoe, Illinois; they later divorced. A lifelong lover of visual and performing arts, she moved to downtown Chicago in the 1970s, taking full advantage of the city’s cultural institutions. Always proud of her family, she took pleasure in hosting parties to celebrate their milestones and accomplishments. Her own accomplishments included earning a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University after raising her two children.
Roz was predeceased by her parents, her sister Shirley Harris, and her brother-in-law Merle. She is survived by her son Lawrence (Joanne) Blankstein and daughter Barbara Blankstein, grandsons Brian Blankstein (Julia Bninski) and Jeffrey (Laura) Blankstein, great-grandchildren Chloe, Ford, and Hazel Blankstein, and a network of extended family.
Roz’s family members are deeply thankful for the quality of life that she enjoyed in her final years, and wish to express particular gratitude to Rose Williams, Angelo, Linda and Marvin for the care they provided.
A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park in Skokie, Illinois. To ensure health and safety, please join by livestream at 11am Monday, March 29 rather than attending in person @ www.cjfinfo.com.
