Obituary

Robert 'Bob' Lantos was born June 8, 1930 in Johnstown, PA to parents Theresa (née Freud) and Joseph Lantos, both registered pharmacists who came to this country from Hungary in the 1920s. He attended Westmont Hilltop HS and the University of Michigan B.S. Pharmacy '52, and M.S. Hospital Pharmacy, '54, a new degree at the time. In 1957, he accepted a position as director of hospital pharmacy at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He returned to Johnstown in 1960 to fill prescriptions at his parent's drug store, marrying and having first son Steve, 1962. He then took a position as pharmacy director at the Univ. of Texas, Austin Teaching Hospital where second Jim was born, 1966. The family moved to Gainesville, FL where he became head of pharmacy at the U of F's Shands Teaching Hospital 1966-1974. In 1972 Bob was elected president of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and spent the year traveling the world representing ASHP in over 20 countries. In 1975 Bob was appointed head of pharmacy at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, and accepted an appointment at the Mass. College of Pharmacy until 1980. He traveled to Indonesia and Thailand, consulting and advising their governments about hospital pharmacy. He took up his last posting as Dean of Continuing Education at Long Island Univ., Brooklyn NY, a position he held until his retirement in 2008.
A sports enthusiast with an uncanny memory for team and individual player statistics, life-long friend to his high school and college peers, loving father to Jim and Steve, 'Papa' to grandchildren Joey and Dainelle, and husband to Sandi. To dad/Papa/Bob family mattered. He will be greatly missed and always remembered in our hearts.
