Obituary

Richard "Rick" J. Barnett, 80. Beloved husband for 56 years to Lauren, nee Bateman; cherished brother of Lee (Geraldine) Barnett and brother-in-law of Howard Bateman; devoted son of the late Herb and Mitzi Barnett; loving cousin of Laura (Joe) O'Shea and John (Cynthia) Krass; dear friend of many. Rick was Assistant General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Sears for over 30 years. Having spent a year abroad at the University of Glasgow, he was a lover of Scotland and returned many times over the years. He was an avid sailor, and could often be found on the sailboat he shared with his brother Lee. Rick was a lifelong learner and enthusiastic student of history, film, and Shakespeare. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Irman Scholarship at Beloit College, 700 College St, Beloit, WI 53511, www.beloit.edu/giving/ways-to-give and specify Irman Scholarship in the Designation box.
