Obituary

Nancy J Labbie, cherished wife and beshert of Dr. Stephen Labbie, who preceded her in death. Mother of Jennifer Standish McBride (Robert), Scott Gordon, M.D., and Whitney Gordon; adored grandmother of beloved grandchildren Robert and Katherine McBride. She and her husband are now finally together again in Olam Haba for all eternity. Mrs. Labbie earned her BA from the City College of New York; an MA from Michigan State University; and a Juris Doctor cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. Before law school she was a tenured Instructor at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, MI where she initiated and directed the Laboratory For Perceptual Auditory Development, still in existence. Her teaching area of specialty was the Literature of the Bible. She also served as a District Manager-Organization Effectiveness at Michigan Bell Telephone in Detroit, then part of the Bell System, where she was also an executive speech writer and award-winning corporate television writer and producer. After law school, Mrs. Labbie was made an equity partner at the Detroit law firm of Clark, Klein and Beaumont (now Clark Hill), where she specialized in Labor and Employment Law. After moving to Illinois, Mrs. Labbie was appointed a Director and Senior Litigation Counsel at United Airlines, where she put in place various anti-discrimination measures, implemented the newly enacted Americans with Disabilities Act and taught seminars to employees internationally. Dr. and Mrs. Labbie were very active in Chicago's Jewish Community. For twelve years, Mrs. Labbie was the sole developer and Instructor of the Conversion classes for North Shore Rabbis, sponsored by the Chicago Rabbinical Assembly and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. She was a beloved teacher whose passion for, and love of Judaism and its sacred values were transmitted to hundreds of students. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Friends of Magen David Adom, wwwafmda.org. Graveside service Monday, October 21, 2024 10:00 AM at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W.
