Obituary
Miryam “Butch” Rubenstein (née Grobart), age 95, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025. Beloved wife and best friend of Morris for 37 wonderful years. Loving mother of Sima (Arlen) Savitt, Judith (Michael Gantz), and the late Arye Pinkus; cherished “Bubbie” of Jackie Chambers, Hollie Savitt, and Jacob Gantz; proud great-grandmother of AJ Chambers; much loved sister and adored aunt, great-aunt, and dear friend to many. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Angie for 15 years of devoted care and companionship. “Butch” was a strong, driven woman-decades ahead of her time. A spirited nonconformist, she was always up for adventure and a forever student. Fluent in Hebrew, Spanish, some Yiddish, and could recognize dreck - otherwise bullshit. Amongst many bachelors and other degrees, she loved her piano, singing and was a passionate lover of the arts. A vivacious reader with a deep love for Torah and her Jewish heritage, Miryam was a devoted and active member in her synagogue, Hadassah and community.
Miryam didn't just believe you were never too old to learn; sharing her many passions with her children, granchilden, nieces and nephews. She and her beloved Morris shared a passion for world travel, often taking their family on unforgettable vacations. She was an avid gardener, a skilled seamstress, and always had dinner on the table, making everything from scratch. Above all, she adored her family-and they adored her in return. Miryam’s wisdom, warmth, infectious laugh and spirited love of life will be dearly missed. Memorial donations in her name to Hadassah Chicago North Shore, www.hadassah.org/region/chicago-north-shore would be appreciated.
