Obituary

Michael Allen Schwartz, 85, passed away on May 25, 2025. Beloved husband of Tobie (nee' Brown) for 58 wonderful years; loving father of Jonathan (Traci nee' Dreier), Andrew (Jia) and Steven (Brett nee' Matthew ); cherished grandpa of Kylie (Noah) Sinai, Miles, Reggie, Ethan, Binna, Hershel and Alec; much loved brother of Dayle (Gilbert) Lehr and Charles (Joan); dear brother in law of Joyce (nee' Brown) and Norman Hafron; cherished uncle, cousin and friend of many.
Michael grew up in Chicago, attended Senn High School and is an alumnus of University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. After college Michael met his beloved Tobie, got married and started a family. Michael worked his way up the ranks at Walgreens, starting as a pharmacist, then manager. The Schwartz family relocated to Highland Park and Michael began to own and operate a chain of drug stores, expanding throughout Chicagoland, acquiring and managing commercial real estate along the way. When Michael was not working at the pharmacy, he enjoyed racing sailboats and was the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac Champion in 1969, past President and Board Member of the National Shield Class Sailing Association and Board Member of the Chicago Yacht Club. In addition to sailing, Michael had a passion for skiing and was a certified Level 2 Professional Ski Instructors of America with Vail Resorts and The Snowflake Club, where he taught kids to ski for over 40 years. His greatest achievement was his family; he was a proud grandpa and a dedicated caregiver for his beloved Tobie, who has Multiple Sclerosis, for the last 35 years. He will be dearly missed. Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, www.mymsaa.org/donate. Chapel service, Wednesday, May 28, 2025; 12:15 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home 1700 W.
