Obituary

Meryle Sue Mitchel, 88, passed away on January 7, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Leonard Mitchel; loving mother of Rabbi Jodi (the late David) Kornfeld and Stacey Landsman; much loved Grandma of Dr. Benjamin Kornfeld (Dr. Bridget Wild), Emma (Jake) Knapp, Brianna (Ben) Cohen and Ellory (Gabriel) Lopez; adored "Mimi" to Louella,Teddy and Kirby Kornfeld; Grandma Meryle to Lena and Oscar Knapp; Great Bubbe to Ari Cohen; treasured daughter of the late Dr. Elmer and Dena Imber, and loving big sister of the late Ariel Imber and the late Dr. Evan Imber Black. After years in the greeting card and gift shop business, Meryle resumed her hobbies as an avid traveler, voracious reader, Jeopardy! enthusiast, opera buff, collector of vintage teddy bears and as a life-long, loyal Cubs fan. Above all, was the love for her family, bringing everyone together to her festive, warm home for annual holiday gatherings. Meryle will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known the light and love she brought to every occasion. Memorial donations in her honor may be made to Breakthrough T1D, www.breakthrought1d.org, for Juvenile Diabetes Research. Interment Shalom Memorial Park.
