Obituary

Maxine “Max” Levin Goldenberg, cherished daughter of the late Charles and Frieda Levin, beloved wife of Earl Goldenberg, loving mother of Romi (Jay) Freeman, Darci Goldenberg, and Jimmy Goldenberg. Proud grandmother “Mameem” of Charlie, Frankie, and Danica. Dear sister of Billy (Audrey) Levin and Marsha (Mickey) Schwartz. Adoring aunt of Andi (Bruce) Malter, Jamie (Ian) Sylvan, Donny (Caroline) Schwartz, Jon Schwartz, Susie (Andrew) Kassof, Chuckie (the late Kay) Goldstein, Gary (Maxine) Goldstein, Larry Goldenberg, Debbie Goldenberg, Danny Goldenberg, the late Robin Goldenberg and the late Michael Goldenberg. Devoted friend to Bonnie Serlin, Alan and Avrie Jacobs, Mike and Bonnie Kaplan, Sarell and Jordan Cohen, Jordon and the late Roberta Brown, Nancy Kenton, Debbie Buonafede, Yong Wrona and Maria Herrera. Maxine died peacefully surrounded by family on October 24, 2021.

Maxine grew up in Albany Park in a close and loving family that valued education. Upon receiving a Masters degree from Chicago Teachers College, Maxine became a teacher in the Chicago Public school system. Even after leaving to look after her own family, her care for all children continued. She volunteered and reached out to help in her community. Maxine became a second mother to Karin Ostebo Klaskin and Peter Zeppieri. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression with everyone she met.

Graveside service Tuesday 11AM, at Shalom Memorial Park (Section VII – Mt. Zion), 1700 West Rand Road, Arlington Heights. To attend the funeral livestream please visit our website.
