Obituary

Mary Holtzblatt, nee Asher, 102, beloved wife of the late David Holtzblatt; loving mother of Mark Holtzblatt, Ellen Holtzblatt (Alan Hobscheid), and Pamela Holtzblatt (Raymond Ariaz); cherished Bubbe of Rachel Ariaz (Kurt Barber), Maya Hobscheid (Joseph Boyer), Shana (Nick) Strach, and Hana Hobscheid (Adam Schaff); adored great-Bubbe of Asher Boyer and Rylin Barber; dear sister and devoted daughter; fond aunt, and friend of many. Mary grew up in Maywood with her 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and parents Isadore and Sonia, who had immigrated from Minsk. Her caring nature and heart for helping others lead her to volunteer her time at a local hospital during WWII. Mary was devoted to her late husband, David, and together they raised their family in Chicago, and later, Glenview and Skokie. During her life she had many different jobs, which included a doctor's office, secretarial work, and helping her beloved David in his accounting practice. Mary was a kind and compassionate person, whose greatest pleasure was helping others and taking care of her family and friends. She also loved animals and music but mostly had a passion for spending time with her 4 granddaughters and 2 great-grandsons. During her 102 years of life, Mary touched so many people with her warmth, kindness, and generosity of spirit. Her memory will be a blessing for all who knew and loved her.
