Obituary

Marlene Hemleben (nee' Schwartz), Age 87, passed away on April 22, 2025; beloved wife and best friend of Harry for 60 wonderful years; loving mother of Joshua, Rachel (Mark) Mappa, Louis, and Esther; cherished "Bubbie" of Zackary (fiancee' Hannah) Mappa, Tanner Mappa, and Sophie Mappa; much loved sister of the late Alan (the late Estelle) Schwartz and the late Maurice Schwartz; dear sister in-law of Harriet (Herbert) Paris; Josephine (the late Howard) Penn; Louise (the late Tommy) Muller, the late Bertha (the late Aaron) Caplan, the late Regina Schaffer, and the late Rose Hemleben; treasured aunt, great aunt and friend of many. Marlene was an avid reader and could be known to be reading multiple books at one time. Marlene serviced on the board of Sertoma Star Services, which held a special place in her heart because her darling daughter Esther is a resident there. Marlene would always ensure that on the Jewish holidays, she cooked for Esther and her roommates so that they too could participate in the holiday. An active member of Am Echad in Park Forest and past president of the sisterhood. Judaism was extremely important to Marlene, and she took pride in keeping a kosher home. She was a caregiver in every sense of the word and took care everyone. She will be dearly missed. Memorial donations may be made to: Sertoma Star Services, www.sertomastar.org/donate.
