Obituary
Marlene Cohen, nee Goldsmith, age 74, died on Monday, May 27th peacefully in her Northbrook residence, beloved wife of Melvyn F. Cohen; loving mother of Matt (Amy) Cohen and Melissa (Bradley) Zabel; adored Grammy of Ezra, Audrey, and Emmie Cohen, Teilah, Shyler, and Brayden Zabel; devoted daughter of the late Arthur S. and the late Thelma “Tybee” Goldsmith; dear aunt of Joy McIntosh and Gregory Handler; treasured friend to many. Marlene loved spending time with her grandchildren, with whom she was a loving confidant, constant cheerleader, and dear friend. Since retirement, she could be found on the soccer sidelines, in the ice skating rink, and at the dance studio, supporting her grandchildren and making new friends with her infectious smile and kind heart. She was everyone’s ’Grammy’ and it was a title she wore proudly. During her 36-year career as a grammar school teacher in the Chicago Public Schools, Marlene was a loyal supporter of teachers everywhere and was deeply invested in the lives of the thousands of students in her classroom. She spent her free time playing mah-jongg and canasta, enjoying vacations to Mexico with her family, and hosting holiday and Sunday dinners to keep her family close to her. Service Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at The Chapel, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove (1 Blk N. of Lake Cook Rd.). The service will be livestreamed on Marlene’s webpage at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com.
