MARK WINTER
1935 – 2025
WINTER, MARK
MARK WINTER passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2025, in Northbrook, Illinois after a brief illness. He was born in the Bronx on April 29th, 1935, as an only child to Sol and Ann Winter. Throughout his childhood, he was surrounded by many of his maternal relatives in nearby Queens, including his grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins. Mark attended Jamaica High School.
Following high school, Mark entered the workforce as a salesman in the apparel industry working for Aris Isotoner. In 1954, he married Sondra Reiter who he was with for 23 years, spending time in both Charlotte, NC and later Orlando Florida. They had two children together, Robert and Steven. After separating, Mark moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he met and married Brenda Caplan. They were happily married for 43 years, spending time in both Atlanta and Siesta Key, Florida. Mark recently moved to Chicago after Brenda’s passing to be closer to family.
Mark is survived by his three sons Robert Winter (Caryn) of Orlando, Steven Winter (Terri) of Chicago, Mark Fishman (Joanna) of Jackson Hole and his daughter Jill George of Atlanta, 7 grandchildren, Lindsay Bellinkoff (Ira) of Orlando, Rebecca Ackerman (Eddie) of San Francisco, Zach Winter of Boca Raton, Jason Winter (Alyssa) of Chicago, Mia Fishman of Jackson Hole, Cooper Fishman of Jackson Hole and Izzy Fishman of Jackson Hole and 4 great grandchildren Benjamin Bellinkoff, Bina Bellinkoff, Asher Ackerman and Skyler Winter. Mark was predeceased by his parents, Sol and Ann Winter, his wife Brenda Winter, and his son in law Art George.
Nothing made him happier than having everyone together for celebrations or embarking on a never-ending marathon game of Rummikub. An avid photographer, he embodied the essence of a devoted family man-someone who not only captured life’s moments through his lens but also created cherished memories that will live on in all of us. Family was a source of pride and comfort throughout his life. He had a kind and generous heart, touching many along the way.
The family wishes to thank Mark’s caregivers for their loving and dedicated care and support.
Private Funeral services will be held graveside on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 2 pm at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark’s memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the Jewish United Fund or Friends of IDF.
