Obituary

Margie Weiss (nee Marjorie Judith Pimstein), age 88, of Highland Park, Illinois passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021.

Preceded in death by her husband Donald Weiss and daughter Jill Weiss, Margie is survived and will be deeply missed by her children Jeff (Christie Stone) Weiss and Wendy Kritt, loving grandchildren Amanda Kritt, Catherine Weiss (Will) Snyderwine, Harry Peter Weiss, Jessie Kritt (Celso) White, Nathalie Weiss, Teddy Weiss (Laura) Thomas, and great grandson Oliver Thomas.

Margie served the Highland Park community for decades with passion and dedication. She proudly oversaw the Downtown Redevelopment Commission which resulted in the construction of Port Clinton Square, the development of Fort Sheridan for civilian use, and worked to establish home rule, bring about school consolidation and to ban handgun ownership. Always fair minded, she evaluated the impact of issues on citizens of Highland Park. A colleague called her "a walking history of [our] city government. It was easier to consult Weiss than to sift through the formal ordinances". Elected four times to the City Council, her legacy of service includes years as Mayor Pro Temp, decades as President of the League of Women Voters, membership on the Apple Tree Theater Board of Directors and Highland Park Community House Board, and most recently as President of the Fort Sheridan Drill Hall condominium association. She will be remembered for her wit, keen and inquisitive mind, and beautiful smile.

Passionate about fashion, fine arts and design, she enjoyed golf, ice skating, theater and film, travel, good food, and relished sharing her knowledge and opinions on these topics with her friends, children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margie's honor to the Highland Park Community Foundation, www.hpcfil.org.
