Obituary

Laurie Jean Spak Weinstein, 74, of Oronoque Village, Stratford, CT, born and raised in Chicago, passed on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Bridgeport, CT. Beloved wife for nearly 48 years of Thomas B. Weinstein of Stratford CT; fiercely-loving and devoted mother of Matthew E. Weinstein of Stratford, CT and Brendan M. (Kali Thompson) Weinstein of Clifton Park, NY; adored “Ama” of grandchildren Augie and Ellie Weinstein; caring sister of Donald F. (Helene Savage) Spak; loving daughter of the late Marshall and late Norma (Shapiro) Spak; cherished sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend of many. Attended Mather High School and the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle (B.A. Education).  She raised her family in New Rochelle, NY, where she and Tom moved in 1984.  Laurie will be remembered for her laughing and loving nature.  Graveside service Sunday 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 N. Gross Point Road, Skokie, IL.  Family and friends will meet immediately after the service at Max and Benny’s Restaurant, 461 Waukegan Rd, Northbrook, IL 60062. There will also be a shiva for Laurie’s friends and family on the East Coast on Saturday, June 27, at the home of dear family friend Jerry Goldman, 11 Plymouth Pl, White Plains, NY, from 1 to 5 pm.  Laurie never tolerated New York or New Haven pizza as acceptable substitutes for Chicago deep-dish, and, even after 42 years in New York and Connecticut, she still sounded like she’d just stepped off the El.  Laurie fought systemic scleroderma for many years.  May her memory be a blessing to us all. In lieu of flowers, donations in Laurie’s name may be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation (www.scleroderma.org/donate) and/or the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation (https://foundation.bridgeporthospital.org/bh-fund-donate/).  For information, including a link to view the livestream or to leave words of condolences, please go to Laurie’s webpage at Goldman Funeral Group, Irwin Goldman, Funeral Director, www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com, (847) 478-1600.
