Obituary

Kimberly Mendel, nee Belson, age 44, of Deerfield, formerly of Peabody, MA, beloved wife of Brad Mendel; loving mother of Madison and Emerson; devoted daughter of Roberta and the late Richard Belson; cherished sister of Jaclyn (Jared) Wilson; dear daughter-in-law of Caryn and Barry Mendel; special sister-in-law of Jacki (Steven) Glass; adored aunt of Jordyn and EJ Wilson and Sydney and Lea Glass; treasured niece, cousin, and friend of many.

Kimberly was a whip-smart sales rep for Kellogg, while teaching at DePaul’s business school. Kim’s infectious laughter, energy, and deep care for those around her established Kimberly as top performer and relationship builder. Kim established friendships through her ability to connect with colleagues and that good will extended throughout her life. She’d spend hours catching up with her high school friends and having extensive dinners with colleagues.

As a mother, Kimberly was sweet, nurturing, and so deeply committed to her girls. She happily occupied the front row of Madison’s plays and was always there for Emerson’s school parties. She even was able to make it to a Mother’s Day event and play during the last weeks of her life pushing through her pain and fatigue. That is the definition of a mother’s love and strength.

Family meant everything to Kimberly. If you were Kim’s friend, that meant you were automatically family. Kim was an avid baker and traveler. The consummate hostess-she turned the most mundane moment into an experience worth remembering. She had such a zest for life.

To say her loss is a tragedy brings new meaning to the word. Her memory will most certainly be a blessing. If Kim has one parting message, it is for all women to heed medical advice and get their breasts and bodies checked regularly.
