Obituary

Jerome "Jerry" Rappin passed away surrounded by his family Monday afternoon, February 19th. He is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Susan Rappin (nee Seiden), his children Tracee and Kevin, and his grandchildren Adam Rappin, Lillian Gerber, Bennett (Daniel) Vanderbosch, and Joe Gerber. Jerry was deeply committed to his family, his friends, and his community - as was evident in every era of his life. A union plumber for over 40 years, he trained and mentored new plumbing and HVAC technicians throughout his career. Jerry became a staple in the Skokie community as the first coach for the inaugural boys hockey team at Niles North High School, bringing them to many championships, as well as coaching countless other local sports leagues. Known for benching no one and believing in everyone's innate abilities, people still talk about Coach Rappin and the impact he had on their lives. In retirement, Jerry worked for Septran, INC., transporting young people with special needs year-round to and from school, eventually being asked to become a certified trainer for all new special education bus drivers statewide. In recent years, he enjoyed the simple life, spending most days as an Uber driver and enjoying time with his family and his many great granddogs. His family was his pride and joy, and the legacy of kindness, humor, compassion, and unconditional love he leaves behind will continue to be a guiding light for those who had the privilege of knowing him. Private services were held. For information regarding shiva, and to leave condolences, www.shalommemorial.org or (847) 255-3520.
