Obituary

Janice M. Brown, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in San Diego, CA.  Born on April 27, 1937, in Kokomo, Indiana to the late Irving and Elsie Weinberg, she had one sister, the late Sandra L. Mayor. She later married the late Gerald Brown and together, for the next 45 years, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, enduring friendships, and travel, ultimately working together to build a thriving, celebrated, and one of the first of its kind feline-only veterinary practices. They spent their final years together in their high-rise dream home overlooking Chicago's beautiful lakefront, along with a front-row seat for the fireworks at Navy Pier. Jan was a devoted and extremely proud mother to her children, Shelley Brown and Lorie Brown, as well as a loving grandmother to Evan, Jordan, and Jillian Brown.

Jan was a pioneer, paving the way as a businesswoman and feminist who broke down barriers and inspired women as an author, speaker, marketing executive, and inventor—eventually owning her own public relations firm. She was a creative, humorous, tenacious, powerful, and hardworking force. If you needed someone to advocate for you, she was as fierce as they come. Her many friendships lasting several decades, and a second chance at love with the late Joseph Bruno, are a testimony to her loyalty.

Jan Brown will forever and always be known by both names. She was larger than life and will be greatly missed by many.

A private celebration of life will be held on June 19, 2025, where Jan will be laid to rest next to her beloved Gerald Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago.
