Obituary

Hugh R. “Buddy” Block, of Highland Park lived a vibrant, passionate, rich life that ended 3 months shy of his 100th birthday. Predeceased by his beloved parents, Milton and Anna Block, in-laws Bernard and Jeanette Baygood, and his treasured sister Muriel (the late Haskell) Kasanov. Buddy is survived by his best friend, dearest soulmate and wife of almost 75 years, Arlene, his three adoring children, Robert (Audrey) Block, Laurie Block, and Lisa Block, his cherished grandchildren, Joshua (Talia) Block and Jamie (Ralph) Lee, and his precious great-grandchildren, Siena Lee, Jaden and Gideon Block. Buddy is also survived by his loving siblings, Carol (the late Harry) Whited and Lawrence (Abby) Block, sister-in-law Marcia Plonsker, and brother-in-law Kenneth (Louise) Baygood. His infectious joie de vive brought joy and laughter to many generations of nieces and nephews and to countless friends. Service Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at The Chapel, 8851 Skokie Blvd, Skokie (at Niles Center Rd.). Buddy’s service will be livestreamed on his webpage at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com. Interment Westlawn Cemetery, Norridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation www.rbpfoundation.org, Moraine Township Food Pantry www.morainetownship.org or Highland Park Strings www.highlandparkstrings.org.
