Herbert “Herb” Kessel

October 8, 1942 – January 5, 2025

Herbert “Herb” Kessel, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, at the age of 82 surrounded by his family. Herb is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Sharon nee Sternshein; his loving sons, Michael (Julie) and Eric (Shana) Kessel; and his cherished grandchildren Harrison, Avery, Charley, Olivia and Jackson. He also leaves behind his brother Morton, and many other relatives and friends who will deeply miss him.

A proud graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law, Herb built a distinguished career in real estate law that spanned over five decades. His professionalism and kindness earned him the respect of his colleagues and clients alike.

Herb loved traveling with Sharon and their family, exploring new places and creating lasting memories. A lifelong learner, Herb embraced curiosity and continued taking classes well into his 80s. Above all, he was a kind, caring person whose warmth and genuine nature left an impression on everyone he met.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025. Chapel service, Sunday 12:15 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Inurnment Beth Shearim Mausoleum, Shalom Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chicago Lighthouse (for the blind), chicagolighthouse.org, a cause close to Herb’s heart.
