Obituary
Harvey L. Coustan, 82
Beloved husband of Arlene nee Nechin. Loving father of Rabbi Andrea (Danny) London, Charles (Hillary) Coustan, Liz Coustan and the late Brad (Helene) Coustan. Proud grandfather of Yonah, Liora, Eli, Ari, Maya, Aden, Victor and Ava. Dear brother of Donald (Terri) Coustan and Susan (Errol) Stone. Harvey was a lifelong Chicagoan, born and raised in the South Shore neighborhood and an avid White Sox fan. He loved participating, watching, and coaching various sports, including softball, tennis, skiing, and golf. A graduate of DePaul University with both an undergraduate degree and a master’s in taxation, Harvey continued to share his knowledge of taxation as a professor at both DePaul and Georgetown Universities. He joined Arthur Young out of college and spent the next 39 years with Arthur Young/Ernst & Young, eventually serving as head of the firm’s national tax practice in Washington DC. Harvey became a nationally recognized leader in his profession, chairing the tax division of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). He was married to Arlene for 52 years. Together they enjoyed spending time with their kids and grandkids, especially at their vacation home in Coloma, Michigan, as well as traveling and attending theater. He had a wry sense of humor and appreciated a bad pun. Harvey loved Mel Brooks and, when his family was gathered around him, liked to declare: “It’s good to be the king.” The patriarch of the Coustan clan will be dearly missed.
