In Loving Memory of

Harriet Phyllis Cavalier

September 28th, 2020

Obituary

Yom Kippur morning, September 28, 2020, saw the passing of our beloved Phyllis (Vogel) Cavalier. Phyllis was the daughter of the late “Pop Pop” Lou and “Nana” Ethel Vogel. The “eternal love” of the late Melvin Cavalier, her husband of 54 years, and the big sister to Sheldon Vogel, her best friend. She is survived by her devoted children: Mindy and Michael Per and Calvin Howard Cavalier. The loves of her life, her grandchildren: Zachary Aaron Per, Alexander David Per and Alexandra (Smolen) Per. Her loving nieces and nephews: Judith and Frederick Schott, Mark and Amy Cavalier, Robin and Dennis Andrews, Terri Chochos, and Toni Vogel. Her adoring extended family: Artie Snow, Rosalyn Haller, Marian Block, Allen Cohen, Penny and Gregg Patrick, Steven and Alyssa Patrick, Emily and Cassie Ruggiero and Ryan Patrick. A special shout out to her Mahjong Girls and Caregivers.

Phyllis, a great depression baby, lived her life with joy and positivism. The daughter of a lower Park Heights auto mechanic, she went on to graduate Forest Park High School in the highest career a woman in 1940 could hold, a secretary. A position she excelled at, working for the late Senator O’Conner in Washington D.C. It was on that daily train to D.C. where she met Melvin Cavalier, the love of her life. After marriage, her life was dedicated to being: a wife, mother and eventually, a beloved grandmother.

Her interests included watching sports: Orioles, Colts (season tickets), Ravens, and tennis matches with Nadal (her secret love). She was an avid walker around Pikesville, on her treadmill and eventually on her walker where she would do laps around her home in Stevenson Village. Mahjong at least four days a week, volunteered for the Covenant Guild, swam at the Summit Country Club and in the ocean, danced, had two children, raised her grandchildren, attended little league games, laughed, cried and died peacefully, in her own home and in her own bed.
Most would envy her 92 years, which she lived to the fullest.

Services and interment are private. Please omit flowers. Contributions in her memory may be directed to Covenant Guild, Inc., c/o Jacque Ziskind, 8509 Snowreath Road, Baltimore, MD 21208.
