Obituary

Gerald "Jerry" Friedman, 93, of Mansfield, OH passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 21st after a brief illness. He had been surrounded by all his children and family in his last days. Gerald was born in 1929 to loving parents Norman and Edith Friedman and raised on Chicago IL north side. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and took pride in his service as a member of the Illinois National Guard. Jerry excelled in the sales profession as a young man ultimately leading to his life career. In the mid 1950's Jerry met the love of his life and future wife, Irene. They moved to Mansfield along with his brother and family to open 5 Cousins, an institution in the discount store business and Mansfield's first discount center. Along with Irene he later owned The Shoe Studio.

Jerry was a devoted man, always providing for his family. He stayed involved in his community and particularly Emanual Jacob Congregation where he served on various boards and committees.
He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his four children, Norman and wife Nancy Friedman of Walnut Creek, CA, Murray Friedman of MD, daughter Lynne and husband Daniel Allen of Columbus and Beth and husband Michael Lewis of Cincinnati, his grandchildren Micah and wife Golnaz Friedman, Jared Friedman, Eve, Amanda and Vincent Allen, Rachel and Maddie Lewis, great grandson Jonah Friedman, sister-in-law Phyllis Simon and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 yrs, Irene in 2020. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Emanuel Jacob Congregation P.O. 3753 Box Mansfield, OH 44907.
