David Shmikler

Obituary

David J. Shmikler, age 75, passed away 2/27/2024 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Elizabeth Stein, his son Joshua (Katherine) Shmikler, his brothers Robert (Barbara) and Samuel (Amy). He leaves behind his granddaughter Hannah as well as nephews Daniel, Richard Frazin, Jonathan, Aaron, Jared, Benjamin, and nieces Jill Frazin and Talia. He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Marian (Goldsmith) Shmikler and his brother Michael (Michelle). David was born in Urbana, Illinois and moved to Highland Park, Illinois as a pre-teen. After graduating from the University of Illinois and service as an officer in the US Navy, he took a position in the family business, Illinois Glove Company, in the Chicago area. He retired as company president in 2018. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. He was devoted to his favorite charity The Ark and served as a Trustee. He was loved and respected by many. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Ark Chicago, 3100 Dundee Road, Suite 802, Northbrook, IL 60062. Chapel service Thursday, 12:15 PM, at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W.
