In Memory of Claire Leder-Billings

With loved ones at her bedside, Claire Leder-Billings passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026. She was 98 years old. 

She leaves behind her husband, Alvin Billings; son Robert Leder and his wife Maureen Leder; daughter Ellen Faden; and grandchildren Jeffrey Faden, Adam Leder, Matthew Leder, Jayda Siegler, Lily Ray, and Jetson Leder-Luis, along with their spouses Anna Gazdowicz, Lexi Hager, Charles Siegler, and Caroline Luis. 

Claire was able to meet all five of her great-grandchildren to date: Patrick Faden, Scott Faden, Claire Faden, Wesley Siegler, and Charlotte Luis. 

She is predeceased by her daughter, Jan Leder (2023), her mother, Bertha Gruenberg (1977) and her father, Abraham Ivanier (1933).

Born in Vienna on August 11, 1927, she escaped Nazi Austria as a child and found peace and refuge in New York, residing for over seven decades in Bayside, Queens where she was an active member of the community. 

Claire’s legacy of resilience, joy, and discipline lives on through a generation of artists whom she taught and mentored across New York, and through many friends and family who are grateful to have enjoyed so much time together.

A graveside ceremony will take place at the King Solomon Memorial Cemetery in Clifton, New Jersey, on March 26, where she will be buried alongside her mother.
