In Loving Memory of

Carol Litwin

Obituary

Carol Lee Litwin (née Goldman) born on May 2, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois passed away in the late evening of January 16, 2024, of complications from late-stage cancer.  Carol was the beloved wife of Barry; loving mother of Jennifer (Ken) Sas and Elayna (Bryan) Schatz; adored grandmother of Olivia Sas; dear sister of the late Susan Goldman; devoted daughter of the late Albert and the late Elayne (née Levine) Goldman; cherished family member; and treasured friend.

As all who knew her would agree, Carol was a fun, kind, and sassy spirit who always made time to be a comfort to family, friends, and even strangers.  Carol’s humor and sense of joy radiated from her to everyone she knew; her Buffalo Grove home of 28-years was affectionately known as the “Litwin House of Love.”

In 1975, Carol met Barry thorough a fix-up by friends.  Their initial, mutual attraction continued to grow and build, and they were married in 1979 in Morton Grove, surrounded by family and friends.  Over the years, Carol and Barry lived in Skokie, Wheeling, and Buffalo Grove in houses that quickly became homes.  Carol and Barry were inseparable best friends and constant companions.  All who knew them were inspired by their enduring love.

Carol was an outstanding cardiac nurse who loved caring for others.  After complications of a brain tumor caused her to change paths, Carol, along with Barry, became successful entrepreneurs, managing their business side-by-side for 27 years.  Their partnership remains an inspiration to her daughters and friends.

Carol took great pride in watching her daughters grow into strong and compassionate women.  She loved being a voice of reason and unwavering support to them whenever she was needed.  When Elayna met Bryan and Jennifer met Ken, both boys passed Carol’s scrutiny and she took to them quickly, and grew special relationships with each of them.  As Olivia’s granny, Carol loved spending time and caring for her granddaughter, including becoming a dedicated T1D (type 1 diabetes) advocate.  Ensuring Olivia was safe, balanced, and happy became one of Carol’s most passionate pursuits.  Carol took amazing joy in sharing her May 2 birthday with her son-in-law Bryan and granddaughter Olivia; each year’s birthday was always filled with happiness and celebration.

Her friendships were a source of great fulfillment for Carol.  She will continue to be remembered by long-time friends who had become family, and every person she shared a smile with along the way.

A Celebration of Life in Carol’s honor will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:30 PM. This will be an open-house memorial celebration at the home of Elayna and Bryan Schatz. Location details will be provided to those who reach out.

In lieu of flowers, Carol had asked for donations to be made to Olivia Sas to accommodate her special educational and medical needs. Please contact Eileen Spiegel at [email protected] for more information.

May her memory be a blessing.
