Obituary

Brucene "Bru" Mangurten passed away on October 13, 2024 surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. Bru was a school speech pathologist in Deerfield Public School District 109, located in the same community where she and her husband raised their family. Bru was passionate about her work and the progress of her students. She looked forward to "kindergarten round up" each year. Bru was also a permanent fixture and super fan of Deerfield youth athletics since the late 1970s and Deerfield High School Athletics from the early 1980s until just weeks before her passing. She proudly supported and cheered for her children and grandchildren.
Brucene was the beloved wife of 57 years to David Israel Mangurten; loving mother of Stephanie (Joel) Braunstein and Brooke (Mark) Golding; proud grandmother ("Grammy") to Jacob, Noah, Julia, and Samara Braunstein and Anna and Sari Golding; dear sister of Joel (Risa) Bloom, sister-in-law to Henry and Karen Mangurten and Alan and Gail Mangurten; caring aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Bru touched everyone she met with her memorable stories and passion for all the people she cared for deeply. She will be missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to be in her presence.
Donations in Brucene's name may be made to the following charities: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, www.rolfefoundation.org, and the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, www.ilholocaustmuseum.org.
