Obituary

Bette Baum passed away peacefully at her home in Riverdale, New York, on April 20, 2025. She was 104 years old, born in Chicago on January 8, 1921, to Samuel Jacobson and Corrine Jacobson (Greenblatt). The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate and dedicated care provided by her aides, Veronica, Sandra, and Maria, as well as the support from VNS Hospice, which ensured her comfort and well-being in her final years. Bette was vibrant and sharp-witted and, together with her husband Phil, enjoyed all the restaurants, Broadway shows, and museums that New York City offered, as well as traveling the world in support of Phil's work with American Jewish Congress. She was an excellent bridge player, an avid reader and provided invaluable support to her sister Charlotte and Charlotte's family.

Bette is preceded in death by her husband, Phil Baum; her sister, Charlotte Perelman, and her husband, Melvin Perelman; and her nephew, Mark Perelman. She is survived by her nephew, Robert Perelman, and his wife, Mary Lee Barker, and their children, Nathan Perelman and Daniel Perelman and his wife, Kayta; her nephew Mark's wife, Diane Weil, and their children, Rebecca Perelman and Laura Perelman and her husband, Olivier Asset, and their daughter, Madeleine.

A graveside service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery 7801 W Montrose Ave, Norridge, IL 60706 on Wednesday, April 30, at 10:30 AM, with a lunch reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Bette's memory be made to the National Council of Jewish Women, New York Section, or the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale.
