Obituary

Barry Stern of Aventura, Florida, originally from Baltimore and Potomac, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021, at the age of 80.

Barry was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Hyman “Lefty” Stern and Selma Lehem Stern on May 19, 1941. Like his father, Barry excelled as an athlete, playing four varsity sports--basketball, football, baseball, and lacrosse--at Baltimore City College, before graduating in 1959. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and a law degree from the University of Baltimore.

Professionally, Barry was a successful real estate entrepreneur who developed commercial retail and office building properties in the metropolitan areas of Washington, DC, and Baltimore, Maryland. In his retirement years, Barry enjoyed playing golf and entertaining his family with wonderful trips in Florida. Barry was known for his humility, sharp mind, and quick wit. He was loved by many.

Barry is survived by his wife, Susan Feldman; his children’s mother and first wife, Merle Tabor Stern; children, Stacey Stern (Scott Bergman), Jeffrey (Stephanie) Stern, and Wendy (Michael) Gilman; brother, Bernard Stern; grandchildren, Ryan Stern Orbuch, Jared Stern Orbuch, Mason Stern, Owen Gilman, Nolan Stern, and Grant Gilman. He was predeceased by his parents, Hyman "Lefty" and Selma Stern; and his former wife, Lynn Stern.

Services at Sol Levinson's Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, Maryland 21208, on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Kneseth Israel Cemetery, Annapolis, Maryland.
