Obituary

Barbara Brown, nee Sims, almost 102. Beloved wife for 59 years to the late Jack; devoted mother of Laurie (Jim) Trompeter, Faith Keidan, and Jeff Brown; cherished grandmother of Joshua Keidan and Katie (Jeremy Levin) Keidan-Levin; great-grandmother of Shira Jade Keidan-Levin, dear sister of the late Sam (late Bobbie) Sims and Kathleen (late Scott) Ochiltree; treasured aunt of Cam and Helene Ochiltree, Ric and Judy Sims, Marcia and Allen Jackson, and Leslie Kogan; caring great-aunt and cousin of many. Barbara lived a beautiful, music-filled life. She was a talented musician, having graduated from Indiana University with a piano and voice degree. She first pursued a career as a professional musician and singer, then decided to raise her family and go into education. She was a beloved music teacher and choral director in District #65, primarily at Nichols Middle School in Evanston. In her later years she was Music Director of Still Acting Up in Skokie. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org. Chapel service Tuesday, August 13, 12:15 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Rd. Arlington Heights. Interment to follow at Shalom Memorial Park.
