Obituary

Ayala Ute Rothmann passed away surrounded by family on July 27, 2025. She was born on July 30, 1942, in Dusseldorf, Germany to her parents, the late Bruno and the late Elisabeth Hohberg and her two sisters, Ellen and the late Ingrid. She graduated Max Plank Institute in 1964 as a metallurgist and moved to Switzerland where she worked for ten years. It was there that she met her husband, Mark. They were married on August 27, 1967, and remained inseparable for the next 58 years. In 1970 they moved to New Jersey where they raised their two sons, Michael (Becky) and Dan. On top of raising the family, she volunteered at the Middlesex Cultural Center where she raised money and awareness for local theater, was a successful real estate agent, baked amazing cakes, and took the family every two years to Israel to spend time with Mark’s family and the beach. She and Mark then moved to Chicago in 2005, where she was a member at AIPAC and AJC. She valued family above everything else, leaving a legacy of five grandchildren, Carolyn, Ben, Elizabeth, Beverly, and Liora. Funeral services will be held on July 30, 2025 at 11 a.m. CT at Anshe Emet Synagogue, 3751 N. Broadway in Chicago, officiated by Rabbi Michael Siegel. Burial services will take place immediately thereafter at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Rd. Arlington Heights. Info: The Goldman Funeral Group, www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com (847) 478-1600.
