Obituary

Arthur Berman, 97, WWII Army Veteran, 407th Infantry, most beloved husband and best friend of the late Janice nee Weinberg for 67 wonderful years; loving father of Elaine Horwitz and Susan (David) Levine; cherished Papa of Jenna, Aaron, Evan, Rebecca, Abbie, Audrey and Dune Horwitz and Daniel, Benjamin, Jacob (Daniela) and Emma Levine; devoted son of the late Edward and Ella; dear brother-in-law of Lorraine (the late Joseph) Matz and the late Eugene (Francis) Weinberg; treasured uncle, cousin and friend of many. He was a valued businessman, having been an electrical engineer and then executive vice president of a successful lighting company that installed its products in many businesses, including his daughters' schools. Arthur was a friend to many animals, offering love and companionship to countless cats and dogs throughout his life. Arthur was a proud veteran of World War II, having fought in the Battle of the Bulge and then remaining in Europe throughout the middle of 1946 to help in post war efforts in Germany. He later was a member of the Army Reserves, and was a veteran of the Korean War as well. The family also thanks Tony Horwitz for his support. Graveside service Wednesday 2:00 PM at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
