Obituary

Arlene Bass (née Waxman), age 80, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025. Beloved wife of Ronald for 58 wonderful years. Loving mother of Laura (Richard) Rabe, Cindy (Richard) Placko, Jonathan (Vanessa), and Eric (Bongkoj). Cherished "Bubbie" of Alexandria (fiancé Zach Christianson) Rabe, Maissie Rabe, Megan (Carina) Placko-Carrera, Joshua Placko, Luke (fiancée Kambria Anson), Matthew, Thomas, and Harper Bass. Much loved sister, aunt, and friend to many. Arlene was a devoted mother who always put her family first. From being a stay-at-home mom to working part-time around her children's schedules, her life revolved around her loved ones. She was also an active volunteer with ORT and Sisterhood, always giving her time to support others. An exceptional cook and baker, Arlene took pride in preparing meals not only for her family but also for members of her synagogue community. She was deeply proud of her Jewish heritage and dedicated many years to teaching Hebrew and Sunday school at Congregation Am Chai. A brave and courageous fighter, Arlene lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 30 years, facing each day with resilience and strength. Her greatest joy came from being with her grandchildren, whom she adored and cherished. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial donations in her honor may be made to Congregation Kneseth Israel, wwww.ckielgin.org, would be greatly appreciated.
