Obituary

Alvin F. Mecklenburger, 97, passed away October 31, 2024; beloved husband of the late Lois nee Ehrenreich for 59 wonderful years; loving father of Amy (Paul) Thimmig, Jan (David) Sholem, David (Julie) and Jill Mecklenburger; cherished Bonka/Papa of Adam, Andy (Julie), Lindsay (Fiance: David) Thimmig, Jessie (Jordan) Ambrose, Jamie (Mariel) Sholem, Katie (Scott) Arnoldy, Caroline (Ben) Weinberg, Corvin, Alec, Toni and Tessa Mecklenburger; adored great grandfather of; Eliza, Arthur, Everett, Poppy, Annabel, Libby, Jack, Jackson, Juliette, James and Margot; treasured uncle, cousin and friend to many. Proud graduate of New Trier High School and University of Michigan. Honorably served during WWII aboard the CGC Cedar stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Avid sailor, tennis player, fisherman, bowler, storyteller and lifelong poker player. Well known for his kindness, love of dogs, good-natured disposition and sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jewish United Fund, juf.org or ASPCA, aspca.org. Chapel service, Sunday 2 PM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Randhill Park Cemetery.
