In Loving Memory of

Aleksandr Volkovitskiy

Obituary

Aleksandr taught himself to play guitar and sing at an early age, and as a teenager became a popular local musician around his native Minsk, Belarus, and eventually in a Soviet Army Band. His love for music, the Beatles, and composing songs came through in everything that he did. He then worked as a precision mechanics engineer developing, among other things, submarine detectors; before transitioning into teaching mathematics. Working with children became his real passion and he spent many years working in high schools, in both Belarus and NYC, finding creative ways to make math understandable and fun, and as a class director helping his students in all aspects of life. He spent his summers working at Camps Kirovets and Gastello as a counselor, and creating countless songs, skits, bonfire trips, and unforgettable memories for his campers and co-workers alike. His wit, creativity, and eternal humor won him many fans that can tell stories about adventures with him decades on. Later in life, he developed a passion for cooking, and as usual, quickly excelled in providing delicious meals for the family he loved most of all – his mother, two sisters, a niece and a nephew, who he treated as his own children. Family will be visiting at the funeral home on Monday, September 7, at 10 am until 11:00 am. Burial to follow at Sharon Gardens Cemetery.
