Obituary

Abe Shancer, age 99, Holocaust survivor, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family; beloved husband and best friend for 71 years of Sylvia, nee Kasper; loving father of Roberta (Robert) Aronson, Wendy Shancer, Lewis (Cheryl) Shancer, and Jeffrey (Angela) Shancer; adored grandfather of Elyse (Segev Tsfati) Aronson-Tsfati, Pamela (Craig) Marbach, Debra Aronson, Joshua Shancer, Elizabeth (Treavor) Cronin, Matthew Shancer, and Zoe Shancer; proud great grandfather of Arik, Oren, Noah, and Claire. Graveside service Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. at Shalom Memorial Park, Rand & Wilke Rds., Arlington Heights. The service will be livestreamed on Abe’s webpage at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com. Abe worked hard his entire life raising and caring for his family as a barber. He owned the Howard-California Barbershop in West Rogers Park, truly a neighorhood barbershop, where he created life-long relationships. He was loved by all. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Illinois Holocaust Museum, www.ilholocaustmuseum.org or the Greater Chicago Food Depository, www.chicagofoodbank.org.
