Obituary

Dominic DeMarco of Fort Lauderdale, FL, a proud father and a most devoted grandfather, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on February 7, 2023, at the age of 83. Born in Brooklyn, New York on January 15, 1940, Dominic was the youngest of Paolo and Maria (Dachille) DeMarco’s five children. He graduated from the prestigious Brooklyn Technical High School and Hunter College of The City University of New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1962.

Dominic met his future wife, Sharon Kopelman, at Hunter College. They shared 32 years of marriage before her death from cancer in 1996. Dominic’s love and devotion was truly eternal; he converted to Judaism in Sharon’s final months in order be interred next to her, and supplied comfort and support to her parents in the ensuing years.
Dominic began his career in accounting, before transitioning to finance. Tracking the stock market provided a career, a lifelong hobby, and a source of wonderful success for Dominic. His hard work and willingness to endure a three-hour round trip commute enabled Dominic to provide a beautiful life in Yorktown, NY for Sharon and their only child, also named Dominic. It additionally afforded him many wonderful years of retirement, first in Manhattan, and later in Fort Lauderdale. He was fortunate to enjoy going to the beach, hitting the gym, and the camaraderie of a close-knit group of friends until his final days.
Dominic was a gentle and loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a devoted father to Dominic and his wife Kathleen, and so very proud of his three grandchildren: Dominic, Marguerite, and Josephine. Wherever his son’s family lived at any given time - California, Oregon, Connecticut - Dominic would willingly travel, arriving ready and eager to play ping pong with grandson Dominic, taste Marguerite’s latest confection and view Josephine’s recent artworks. He delighted in hearing every accolade and seeing every photo.
In addition to Dominic’s son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, he is survived by several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives who have enjoyed holiday meals, wedding dances and engaging conversations with him.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Weinstein Memorial Chapel in Yonkers, NY. Interment will immediately follow at Beth-El Cemetery in Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Dominic’s name to any organization which you believe would honor his memory.
