Richard Shermer

Obituary

Dr. Richard Shermer, age 87, beloved husband of Ilana for 57 years passed away on January 1, 2022. Loving father of Dr. Mark (Tami) Shermer, Dr. Laura (Dr. Stephen) Zaacks, and Steven (Alison) Shermer. Proud grandfather of Jared (Caroline), Jacob and Jordan Shermer, Joshua and Sonia Zaacks, Eli and Zachary Shermer. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Lottie and older sister, Frieda.

Upon graduating from the University of Cincinnati medical school in 1960, he served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force, ultimately achieving the rank of Captain.

Richard specialized in orthopedic surgery and over his career, helped countless people-of all ages and from all walks of life-so that they could return to their lives and livelihoods. He served as the Chief of Surgery and Chief of Orthopedics at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center on Chicago’s northwest side.

Service Wednesday 2PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road) Skokie. Interment private at Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah, https://www.hadassah.org/donate
