Obituary

JERROLD MYRON FACKTOR (JULY 1, 1933-OCTOBER 21, 2024)

Mr. Facktor, age 91, of Deerfield, Illinois died Monday, October 21st, from complications of congestive heart failure. Mr. Facktor, who grew up on the South Side of Chicago, graduated from South Shore High School, Northwestern University and Northwestern Law School. He attained his CPA and law degree, establishing a practice in tax, corporate, probate and estate law with a distinguished list of clients with whom he formed lifelong friendships. Jerrold maintained a handwritten quote taken from Teddy Roosevelt’s famous speech taped above his desk: “The man in the arena whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood who spends himself in a worthy cause and whose peace shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat”. Upon learning of his death, more than one client remembered him for his friendship, wise legal counsel and creativity in problem solving on their behaves over decades of representation.

He was the elder son of Irving and Faye (Crasko) Facktor, and brother of Marvin C. Facktor, each of blessed memory. Jerrold met his wife, Loraine Schneider, in high school, recounting that they met double dating other dates and initially disliked each other but eventually overcame first impressions to be successfully married for more than 67 years. On Loraine’s 85th birthday, he wrote a long love note to her that reads in part: “you have been my lover, companion and strength for 64 years + and I am lucky to have you. I made the best decision back those many years ago, and although we have had some rough spots along the way, you have always been in my corner and my rock of support. I love you very much and wish that we have the rest of our days together. All my love, Jerry”

Together they built a life full of love, traveled the world and raised their daughters Michelle and Sheryl. They made their home in Highland Park for many years after moving from the South Side of Chicago. In addition to his wife, survivors include Michelle (Timothy Nelsen) and Sheryl (Phillip Mervis), as well as grandchildren Daniel and Simone. Special thanks to the dedicated medical and care professionals who worked with Jerrold.
