In Loving Memory of

Carol Mendelson

August 19th, 2022

Obituary

Carol Mendelson, nee Terman, 89, survived by adoring husband, Ken; children, Beth (Arthur) Diamond, Ruth (Deb Tyler) Mendelson, Daniel (Melissa) Mendelson and the late Steven Mendelson; grandchildren, Hannah and Louis Diamond, Zachary and Asher Mendelson; sister, Sheila Terman (Marc) Cohen; nieces, nephews, cousin, dear friends and beloved step grandchildren. Carol was loved and adored by the many circles she touched throughout her life. Her genuine love and care of others exuded a kindness often rare in the world. In her humility, a lot of people didn't know about her many accomplishments. Carol was a prolific visual artist whose work exuded great technical expertise, whimsy and humor. Along with being a loving, caring supportive mother, she served as Art Director at My Own Magazine. After her beloved son Steve died of AIDS in 1995, she decided to use her grief and art in a positive way. Carol returned to school in her 60's, received a degree and began working in art therapy with aids patients and their families. Her academic achievement in her later years was so impressive, a scholarship was created in her name to help other returning students. Graveside service 2:00 PM Tuesday at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carol Mendelson Scholarship Fund at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, https://www.neiu.edu/alumni-and-giving/giving-0.
