In Loving Memory of

Frank Platchek

Obituary

Franklin “Frank” Platchek, age 72

Frank passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Frank was born in Chicago to Holocaust-survivors Fred and Adele (nee Freud), who met in Shanghai, China. Frank was raised in the North side of Chicago. He served in the US Army Reserves during the Vietnam War, for a time stationed in Monterey, California. His early career was as an elementary school math teacher in the Chicago Public Schools where he met his future wife Marcey Lee. Frank and Marcey married in 1975 and moved to West Rodgers Park where they made their home and raised their sons. Throughout his life, Frank also worked as a shoe salesman, union representative, general contractor and businessman. Despite his many careers, he was happiest quizzing his children on their times tables and 1950s song lyrics. Frank loved the Cubs, the Bears, music, opera, musicals, a Chicago-style hotdog, spending time with his friends and family and watching the world go by from his front porch. He was immensely proud of his family. Frank was preceded in death by his late wife, Marcey (nee Lee), his parents and his sister Judith (the late Harvey) Bregman. He is survived by his sons Terry (Kirsten Salmeen) Platchek and David (Melissa) Platchek, grandsons Theodore Platchek and Joseph Platchek and granddaughter Kayla Barajas. To keep everyone safe and healthy, the interment service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JCFS Chicago, 3145 W. Pratt Blvd., Chicago, IL 60645, www.jcfs.org or Stanford Children’s Health, 400 Hamilton Avenue, Suite 340, Palo Alto, CA 94301, www.stanfordchildrens.org.
